Renewables lead the future of energy

09 May 2019
The world is on the cusp of an energy revolution and every citizen has a part to play to achieve a sustainable future

Without a reliable supply of energy, economic and social activity as we know it today will grind to a halt.

Today, most of our energy needs are met from conventional energy sources such as oil, gas and coal. But these non-renewable sources are depleting fast on the back of increasing industrial demand and rapid population growth. Moreover, the carbon dioxide emissions from burning these fuels are detrimental both for the current and future generations.

Watch: The Future of Energy

It is essential to end our dependence on fossil fuels and instead adopt cleaner, zero-carbon energy sources.

Many solutions are emerging in the form of solar farms, windmills, hydropowered turbines and biofuels. Growing awareness is ensuring that industries, organisations, academia and citizens are playing their part in accommodating these alternative energy sources.

Renewable energy faces challenges with regards to storage and transport. Investment in research and development will provide a path for the future and ensure that the cost of renewable energy continues to drop, making it more accessible for all.

As the transition takes place, it is essential to find the right balance between the conventional and modern ways of producing energy.

Transformation is not an option. It is vital. It is happening. And we all have a part to play.
